Concept of our research group
This group is established at the time when the “Division of Advanced Crystal Materials” dissolved prosperously. The main members of the division form the core of new group and researchers from Univ. of Tokyo and domestic companies joined the research activities. It has been established in April, 2007. From the beginning, the group shows international atmosphere; researches from Russia and Korea are working as a core members. International collaboration with Czech Republic, France, Russia, Italy and U.S.A. are developing. Taking over the philosophy of former division, lots of new ideas are fused into novel research activities.
20th century can be summarized as a century of development by the industries and a war victim. We believe 21st century should be a century of harmony between nature and industries. Then, the research activities for envelopment, medical care, welfare should be treated as one of the most important matter. In addition, due to the recent international situation, technologies for safe, secure, securities and relief should also a matter of importance.
From those points of view, our group put the scintillator and scintillator device research as a main topic. Since scintillator devices plays an important role in the field of medical imaging (molecular imaging), nuclear fusion, safety regulations (imaging for safety), investigation of resource, environmental engineering, particle physics, astrophysics and so on. Research activity in this field has been increasing within last 10 years due to always growing number of applications and their demands particularly in the field of molecular imaging, high energy physics, and especially, due to the international situation, the detection of fears of terrorism becomes one of the highest matters in recent years.
Effective international collaboration with laboratory in France, Czech, Russia, Italy, Germany, USA and Korea is carrying out. International atmosphere is also our unique point.
We are carrying out our research activity based on the above mentioned policy and strategy with our original material design rule as well as fighting spirit and willpower.
We will give a challenge to investigate novel multidisciplinary inorganic materials and elaborate single crystals. The obtained crystals are characterized. New type of devices, which make the property full, will be designed together with our colleagues.
We would like to note that device application is also our research topic. This activity is very important to realize practical application of our developed materials. For the purpose of "real" contribution to human culture, we are always carrying out our research activity considering the industrial application. This point is unique feature of our attitude toward science.
